“Aluminio’s new CD ‘Eu Sou o Barro’ (I am the Earth) is a vibrant, roots-rock-reggae homage to the natural world in all its beauty, harmony and mystery.

The songs are lyrical tributes to the Amazon, the sea, the seasons, beautiful women and Jesus Christ. A beautiful introduction begins with bird song and running water, wafting us to the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Brazilian Portuguese really suits the reggae rhythms and the lyrics evoke a deep love of nature and Jah – one love.

There are elements of Gregory Isaacs and Misty in Roots, with Val Souza’s haunting trumpet providing some glorious top notes over the hypnotic rhythms, however Alumínio’s own voice is strong and spiritual and his personality and obviously genuine social conscience shines through.

The incessant reggae back beat produces at times an almost trance-like state of ecstasy; on the track ‘Eva’, the energetic momentum creates a joyous vibe reminiscent of Bob Marley’s songs, while ‘Uma Estrela’ (A Star) shows Alumínio’s voice at its full emotional range. The melodies are lovely and the heartfelt adoration of a natural world under threat produces an album full of depth and discovery.
