ALUMÍNIO – Reggae for all Tribes
Salvador-Bahia-Brasil

One of Brazil’s major Reggae-men, renowned in Bahia and worldwide for his original, global sound, this flamboyant performer guarantees a highly accessible show of roots-rock-reggae!

Alumínio is famous for his place at the forefront of the roots reggae movement in Bahia, the heart of Brazil’s music and rhythm, as well as for his songs and authenticity. As one of the region’s major Reggae-men, he brings to the stage an energetic show of original music for audiences from all over the world. Alumínio has brought musical joy to his people for 25 years, and today is a reference point for reggae music in Brazil. Likened in São Paulo to Gregory Isaac, Alumínio has had increasing success internationally at venues and festivals in Europe, filling England’s No.1 live music and reggae venue, Hootananny Brixton, during London 2012.

His latest CD, ‘EU SOU O BARRO’, (‘I am the earth’), introduces brand new songs such as ‘O Céu é Alto’ and recalls evergreen favourites; ‘S.O.S. Amazonia’ and ‘Eva’. The ‘rastaman’ brings messages of praise to Jah and to nature, with diverse rhythms from roots to dance, but always Nyambingh that pulses in the veins – this is genuine ROOTS ROCK REGGAE!

Alumínio, born in Riachão de Jacuípe, grew up among the samba & reggae drums of Salvador’s Pelourinho in Bahia, the heart of Brazil’s music and rhythm. Influenced by the hypnotic power of Afro-Brazilian and Nyambingh rhythms, he developed as musician and singer-song-writer, inspired by his life experiences and spiritual connection. He became renowned through his regular events and activism in the Rocinha of Pelourinho. For over seven years, he drew in thousands of people every month from all regions and backgrounds, attracting national and international media, generating collaboration between artists and transforming the ghetto into an internationally recognised cultural hub. A reggae ambassador for social justice, the Rastaman brings a universal message of respect, love and praise.

Likened in São Paulo to Gregory Isaac and Don Carlos, in 2007, Alumínio began his solo international career, and has since enjoyed increasingly recognised successes at venues and summer festivals across Britain, working alongside top musicians in the region. Recent Brazil highlights include Salvador Carnival, the world’s biggest street party, and studio CDs include Rocinha 22 de setembro and Reggae for All Tribes.
